Potter House care home in Yeovil, part of Oyster Care Homes, is celebrating its team members this Good Care Month through a powerful storytelling campaign called ‘Why Do I Care?’—highlighting the people behind the care and the heartfelt reasons they do what they do.
Lucas Garside works as Night Deputy Manager at Potter House and started in care at 18 and never looked back. Lucas said, “It’s always been in my nature to care.
“A moment I’ll never forget in my previous workplace was helping a lady who had lost her ability to walk due to mental health. After months of support, she regained her independence. Seeing her out and about in the community now—that’s why I care.”
Jess Stuart, the friendly Front of House Manager Potter House, shared how one experience showed the impact her role can have. “A family came to us after a really bad experience elsewhere. After I walked them through our approach, they told me I’d said everything they needed to hear. That trust means everything to us.”
Alicia Lowe, a recent addition to the Potter House team as a Care Assistant, said her care journey is rooted in family. “I grew up helping to care for my great grandad. I saw how much love and dignity meant, and I bring that to every resident I support. I want to be the carer that I’d want my own family to have”
Callum Pearce, the General Manager at Potter House, commented, ‘The ‘Why do I Care?’ campaign encourages people to look beyond the job title, and understand the deep care and commitment people in the care industry give every day.
‘When you’re caring for someone’s family member, friend, neighbour – compassion makes all the difference, and there’s no career more rewarding. I’m so proud of our team at Potter House – the dedication each member of staff shows to our residents is incredible – we truly do care.’
