New All-Inclusive Care Home to Bring 60 Jobs to Chard

18 June 2025 Uncategorized

Somerset’s newest purpose-built care home, Gillingham Grange in the market town of Chard, is set to open its doors in August 2025, creating around 60 jobs for the local community.

Offering exceptional standards of care and respect to future residents, Gillingham Grange will mark Oyster Care Homes’ twelfth environmentally friendly home.

Named in ode to Chard-born James Gillingham, a pioneer in the prosthetic limb industry in the 1860’s, the home will provide residential, dementia and respite care for up to 66 older people, with an innovative team of professionals delivering person-centred care in a dignified manner.

As well as fair pay for all team members above the National Living Wage, staff can enjoy benefits like a fully funded Blue Light Card, meals on shift, and excellent career growth opportunities.

Valuing quality, dignity and compassion, the team at Gillingham Grange will provide a holistic approach to elderly care, encompassing not just healthcare but also emotional, social, and intellectual support.

With open-plan social areas and spacious bedrooms with en-suite wet rooms providing privacy and personal space, Tudor House will have state-of-the-art facilities for its residents, including a hair salon, landscaped gardens, a library, a bistro, and an on-site cinema.

Through use of solar panels and ground source heat pump technology, the home can be operated as a Carbon Free Green home, promoting sustainability and eco-friendly standards.

Em Dean, Managing Director at Oyster Care Homes, said, ‘We’re delighted to be opening to doors of Gillingham Grange in August 2025, where we’ll provide excellent care for older people and exciting new career opportunities for the local people.

‘At Oyster Care Homes are focused on making our homes not just luxury places for our residents to live, but also wonderful places for our team members to work. We look forward to becoming a valuable asset to the local community.’
