Fourteen members of staff and families of residents at Lake View Lodge care home in Halling took on the exhilarating zip wire challenge across St Andrews Lake, raising over £700 for Diabetes UK.
Fuelled by their determination to support the vital cause and motivated by residents at Lake View Lodge who were watching from the windows of the care home that overlook the lake, the team walked together to face the challenge.
After being fitted with harnesses and helmets, the group was transported in true action-hero style up the steep quarry trail in a 4-tonne truck. Awaiting them was the imposing zip wire tower, where they battled nerves and biting cold temperatures.
Lucy Lester, Customer Relations Manager for Lake View Lodge, said, ‘Reaching the top of the tower and seeing the lines stretch out across the lake, I suddenly had a few doubts about my ability to participate!
‘But as always, we supported each other, and we were all soon flying through the air! It was great to see the view of our lovely home from such a unique position and know that our residents were cheering us on.’
Harry Garston, Regional Director for Lake View Lodge, added, ‘It was amazing to see the team overcome some very real fears—all with smiles on their faces—for such an important cause.’
Donations are still open, and the team hopes to exceed their fundraising target of £1000 in the coming days.
