Lake View Lodge Care Home Team Visits Sunlight Development Trust Centre

12 November 2024 Lake View Lodge

As part of our commitment to building and maintaining local connections and supporting wellbeing initiatives, Lake View Lodge Care Home’s General Manager, Scott, and Front of House Manager, Sally, recently visited the Sunlight Development Trust Centre in Gillingham. The visit, hosted by CEO Mirelle Frost, provided a wonderful opportunity to explore the centre, meet members of the Medway Men in Sheds programme, and witness some of the fantastic community projects in action.

During their visit, Scott and Sally were able to view a variety of creative projects, including a shed build from scratch, the restoration of a classic 1933 ‘Novelty Merchantman’ crane and penny machine, and the crafting of wooden bug hotels. These projects are a testament to the meaningful engagement that Men in Sheds offers, serving as a vital sanctuary for skill development, social interaction, and a renewed sense of purpose among members.

The Men in Sheds programme provides free sessions five days a week, tailored by members to support different interests. Not only do these activities encourage camaraderie and self-esteem, but they also offer valuable health information and peer support that many members might not otherwise access. Studies show that such initiatives have a significant impact, enhancing mental and physical wellbeing, reducing stress, and easing social isolation. This ripple effect brings lasting benefits to the wider community, including helping to alleviate pressures on local healthcare services.

Scott, General Manager of Lake View Lodge, shared his enthusiasm: “It’s inspiring to see how Sunlight Development Trust is positively impacting lives within the community. Men in Sheds creates a supportive, purposeful environment for men of all ages, and we look forward to exploring future collaborations to support local residents when Lake View Lodge opens in 2025.”

Lake View Lodge, which is on track to open in 2025, in Halling, is committed to building strong community ties and supporting initiatives that enhance quality of life for local residents. We’re grateful to Mirelle and the team for a fantastic visit and look forward to contributing to these vital community efforts.
