Copperfield Court has launched an inspiring new weekly initiative in partnership with Broadstairs College to help bridge the gap between generations and foster lasting friendships within the community.
The first befriending session took place on Friday and saw students from the college, led by Hannah Costin, visit the home to engage with residents in a variety of tabletop games, including Scrabble, Connect 4 and noughts and crosses. The relaxed, informal setting encouraged conversation, connection and plenty of laughter.
As part of the day’s activities, one student marked World Poetry Day by reading two heartfelt poems aloud to the group, receiving a round of applause from the residents. The session also featured a group quiz and an impromptu sharing of stories, including a moment of pride from resident Brian, who showcased his medals and certificates as the founder of the local St Peter’s Tours.
General Manager Eve Balcombe said:
“We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Broadstairs College on this befriending initiative. It’s wonderful to see young people and older generations come together in such a meaningful way. Our residents truly value these interactions, and it’s heartening to see mutual respect, learning and genuine friendships forming already. We’re really looking forward to seeing how this programme continues to grow.”
The weekly sessions will continue to bring residents and students together to share experiences, build bonds, and celebrate the importance of intergenerational relationships within the local community.
