Potter House has officially opened its doors, proudly welcoming its very first residents – marking a momentous milestone in the home’s journey to provide exceptional care in the heart of Yeovil.
With warmth, celebration, and heartfelt connection, the team at Potter House made sure the first day for residents Brenda Tingey, Geoffrey Sambrook, and Julie Shawe was one to remember. To commemorate the occasion, a special ribbon-cutting ceremony took place, with each resident invited to cut the ribbon to their own room – a meaningful gesture that symbolised the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
Callum Pearce, General Manager at Potter House, said: “It has been such a privilege to welcome our very first residents to Potter House. The atmosphere was filled with genuine excitement and emotion as we officially opened the home. Seeing our residents share stories, form friendships, and begin settling in is everything we hoped for. We are committed to creating a home where comfort, companionship, and care come together – and this has been a truly beautiful beginning.”
Resident Geoffrey Sambrook had another reason to celebrate, marking his 88th birthday soon after he moved in. He shared that the brand-new home instantly appealed to him, noting his love for the home-cooked meals and the kindness of the care team. “The care is very good,” he commented, adding that rice crispies were a particular favourite at breakfast time.
Julie Shawe, aged 82 but “feeling 21 years young”, expressed her happiness at choosing Potter House, describing it as “the best option in the area.” Julie has quickly built friendships with fellow residents and praised the home for its delicious food and friendly atmosphere. “Everything about Potter House is very good,” she added with a smile.
Potter House has been designed with comfort, community, and sustainability at its core. Offering residential and dementia care in a purpose-built, environmentally conscious setting, the home is proud to be setting a new standard in care in Somerset.
With the first rooms now occupied, Potter House is looking forward to welcoming more residents in the coming weeks. It’s the start of something truly special – where every person is supported to live well, feel valued, and enjoy meaningful moments every day.
